I have not heared the doge 6201 yet. I ordered it because
of the excellent review in STEREO number 3/2005 and they
are revíewing a 3500 euro product. Further, one newer
knows how long it will be available the backdoor. There are
many examples of this.
I recieved the Droplet 5.0 (loan)
yeasterday and its now burning in for a week on repeat. It's a beast! 51cm wide and really huge something you
don't realise when you see it om picture. The idea is to keep the
one with the best sound. The Droplet is 40-50% more in price
so it really has to be justified. One issue already with the Droplet
is that my wife thinks its really ugly. I have had a lot of audio
stuff the latest years and this is the first time she makes this
remark ever....

For my first purchase in China (a Mingda MC80AA) I had chosen TNT.Tom_H hat geschrieben:Ouch Stentor. It seems that you really had bad luck with your shipping. What was your choosen transnspot methode and who was the seller? Do you have any chance to get some compensation from the shipping insurance?
Was the broken tube the one and only defect or did you experience also others?
BR
I had a broken tube (a 805 tube) and 350 euros of tax and expenses.
When I called TNT to find a solution they told me that the best way was to repurchase another item and to choose their company to ship the amp.
This time I chose FEDEX, I always have a broken tube but we have tried to find a solution for one week. We’ll see...
On the picture above we can see a white plastic
block over the transport.
What is the purpose of this white block?

Perka,
I have no serious explanation for the plastic block. The only thing what I could imagine is a kind of vibration silencer for the transport mechanism. The other photos what I have seen do not show this block.
Maybe somebody else has a better explanation.

Stentor, does that mean that your player also has the plastic bolck?
What about the tube(s)? Did you exchange?
Would you mind to give us your overall impression on the machine? I mean in particular the quality of manufacturing and the sound.

Hi Stentor,
Any news with FEDEX? I would assume that it will be a long and hard way to get any compensation from them.
I expect them to play the ball towards your seller........and then back. At the end, you will be the fool, unfortunately. According to your experience, I will not use FEDEX for my next purchases.
Did you meanwhile made any improvement with the tubes?
Regards from Germany.......

Now it's arrived!!!! All doubts about if Doge is Lua is now gone. See below.
I unpacked the cartoon. Everything in good condition.
First visual impresion is very surprising in a good sense.
I imagined a quite cheap looking thing with too much mirrors, metal and silver but this was really a surprise. Before it arrived I just said to
myself, well the apperance is not so important. It's a tradeoff with
good sound at this price. So even if I dont like it visually, I can live with it.
This is a really beautiful machine that is so precise in all details and quality that you really understand why it costs 3500 euro. Its like
looking at an expensive swiss watch. That special feeling of
quality. It doesent stick out. Its really discreate like a well designed and well manufactured product. But you can see its something special.
The remote looks exactly the same as the Lua Apassionato but withoout the LUA text below. I have the photo of the remote from the STEREO
review. Exactly the same. The buttons are metal balls that are hanging free under the cover so you can turn them all angles. It really gives
another positive feeling of quality.
More surprises. It's CE labeled on the back. Can you believe it!!!
Even more surprise. On the big transformer its marked with
under the transparent plastic "LUA APASSIONATO".
All chinese tubes were intact. I immedeatly chanched the 2 x chinese AT7 into 2 x Siemens ECC81. Still waiting four the for Ei Yugo gold.
So do you also want to know about the sound?

OK, after 3 hours burn-in time its not really credible to
give a review. However, first impressions of the sound are very good!
It strikes me at once how good the higher frequences are. No hard caracter at all even at loud volymes. The presentation is powerful.
After work today, it's been burning in for 24 hours.....
I have some comments of Stentors pictures though.
-Mine doesn' have the white plastic block on the transport.
- On stentors small sticker on the transport there are a lot
of text with numbers and then it sais "Philips China". On my there
are no numbers, only "Philips China".
- On the stentors big transformer it's not written "LUA Apassionato" like
it is on mine. I'm not sure if this is due to the way they have placed
the big transformer. From my memory of yeasterday it seems that my big
transformer is mounted lying down and Stentors is standing up....
I'll have a closer lookout when I'm back home this evening.
The differenses are very puzzling.

Hi Perka,
amazing review so far and comments on your new Doge Apassionato. I did purchase a Jolida JD100S Reference CD-Player one month ago, and all I must say about this machine is that it is really fantastic. Some folks consider it as the LUA Cantilena SEL, but I cannot judge if this is the truth. Yet, the internal layout of the JD100S and your Appasionato are stunningly identical, the remote controls are definite identical, although the JD100S runs only 2*12AX7 and 2*12AU7, yet it uses the same CD-Transport (Philips) from my point of view. Yet, all three compartments ((1) net, D&A, (2) transport and (3) amplification) are sharply disintegrated by metal walls inside the Jolida JD100S. Pictures of the internal layout are given here: http://www.roehren-und-hoeren.de/phpBB/ ... .php?t=534
I replaced the tubes for matched EI Gold pairs, dampened the CDP housing with bitumen mats and exchanged the fuses with audiophile ones from http://www.audiophiles-hifi.de. Sonical perfomance did even more increase due to this replacement measures. It's a fantastic machine and a real bargain, too, compared to others I've listened to.
Regards!

tpoint, I saw the picture of your jolida remote and its the
same as the Doge/Lua Apassionato except one thing.
On my remote about 1.5 - 2.5 cm above the buttons there
is a "grave" that goes in parallell with the short side of the remote.
It's some millimeters deep. In the STEREO 3/2005 review of the
Lua Apassionato you can also se this design on their photo of the remote.
Picture will follow.
