Welche amp fur AC Leisure 2SE MKII

Beitrag von ChinTube »

Hallo
Nach ein par wochen research und anhoren, ich lebe in Shanghai, comme ich da nicht mer aus...
Mein german ist nicht perfect so ich mache weiter in chinglish... solly

First problem, i have no speakers yet so each amp i hear is with a different speaker brand... Frustrating believe me...
Second problem is the fact that i like AC speakers sound but i have been listeting to chinese versions. As i understand there are also EU versions, shanghai dealer says there is no such thing ? AC didnt give any reply to my mail which is quite strange too :?:

I have set my mind on AC Leisure 2 SE MKII, i live in a small appartment (if 3 SE MKII is a better in matching with an amp please advice) and i wonder what you experienced tube lovers would advice me. I have in mind the following amps that i like for one or the other reason.
Quite important is that i listen to a wide range of music (pop, rock, jazz, ...) and like to play loud ... Therefor i think i need KT 88 tube amp models. Any advice on a good alternative is welcome.

A few other mathers that bother me are the following;
Is there a lot off difference in print plates based or point to point wired systems. Is one system better then the other?
Does it mather which system i buy if i keep in mind that later on i maybe want to ad a Pre-amp which seems to be improving the sound very much. I have done quite some reading on this site, unfortunatley this can be frustrating since i have to wait up to 3 minutes for the next page
And when im thingking of maybe buying a pre-amp, why dont i buy mono blocks then. I hear that Meixing pre amp MC7R with MC805A is a good match?
I like the idea changing the sound of an amp completly by tube-rolling, what is a good amp for this, I have seen systems that can use both KT88 and EL34's? Cayin A70T, opera singnature 100.

So here it goes, my sellection up till now...

Cayin A88T; and also the most popular amp on this fantastic website! :OK:
I like this one because of the good reference, remote, cd player of same brand is nice match. No i dont like a mix of diffent brands...
I dont like this one because he is expensive, difficult for biasing, too popular...

Jolida JD502S & Jolida JD801; i don't get the difference... and is it realy almost as good as the A88T?
I like this one because of its price and reference in compa with a88T, remote, good pre-amp and nice and well reviewed JD100S cd player
I dont like this one for i dont know what... maybe i should by this system then

Music Curve D2020A, looks like a great machine... Or?

Classic 16.6 wich is a new model with KT88 TUBES, swithable in ultr and triode configuration
This set i have heard with Leisures and i liked it, then again i heard other stuff that was better sounding. Again, each time diffent amps and different speakers
Like this set for its price, looks and easy biassing and the fact you can switch from utlra to triode (if i am not mistaken...)
Looks of the previous 16... is much nicer dow, would like to hang it on the wall next to my beosystem 4500... hmmm

And then we have the Shanling STP80 which looks real nice but is also expensive, and as i have read here a good match too the cayin again... even i little better according to some?

And why is the Original EL34 tube (ornec gives a 9.2 points, but is this powerfull enough for my listening style?) amp so unpopular, very little news about this, CD2008 however seems to be very popular. Looks great!

Also heared opera cyber30 with french speakers but didnt find it very convinsing?
Melody SP30 with uk speakers sounded very good, but why pay for import speakers when you live in china...

Heard the Meixing mc 368b90 but when playing loud i found it sounding to sharp, maybe wrong match speakers, dont remember which ones...

What about the image amps?

Ok, i know you are all going to tell me to buy those Aurum Cantus speakers and listen to the different amps with them, on the other hand i know you all like talking about this stuff and who knows you can enlighten me hihi :weed:
But then again i want to buy AC models for europe, as i understand and unfortunatly have to hear every day, this appart from the teut teut teut teut teut teut teut teut teut teut ... the chinese versions are probably a little sharper?

Oh, and to make a very big mess of this thread, anyone any experience with jungson BD2 or Weinzhen speakers?

Will close here before i get no reply at all...

Thanks, all advice is very welcome ! :beer

Hello and welcome,

lot of questions...
I own the AC Leisure5 and have had very good experience with the Cayin A-88T, also with the 9084D Monos. I guess this speaker is a good match with KT88 and EL34-amps with more than 20W/channel.

Shanling STP80 when you like a more warmer sound. The comparsion between A-88T and STP80 was made with KEF-speakers which sound very bright and in this case the Shanling was the better solution. The Cayin is very neutral and analytic for a tube amp.

Hello Mel*84, Erzkanzler,

I dropped Tim an email, i hope he also has a shop in Shanghai, would be nice to find a place selling many different brands, most of shops here in Shanghai run their own brand dow its not difficult to have them borrow a set next door...
Actualy already got some advice from Tim but this true his website, i didnt realise he was actualy based in china and a member of this good site. Makes me think of the beoworld website which became a ref for B&O lovers. I have an extensive vintage beo set back in belgium.

You seem to be quite an collector, or should i say lover, of tube amps, nice :)
Nice to hear that also the EL34 tubes over 20W could be a good match for powerfull and loud music playing, or?

If im not mistaken i can not find the Leisure 5 on the AC website, is that a model exclusive for export maybe? Did you buy them true Tim? Oh, is there a difference between chinese AC and export AC speakers?

What would you recommend, buy mono blocks to start and ad a pre amp later or buy for instance an A88T. Is there realy so much difference?

I know i know, go and have a listen, just curious what you think about this.

Thank you both for the feedback, waiting for some news of Tim now.
I will keep you posted what i finaly bought and ad some pics too if you like.

Hello ChinTube,

Have you ever kept your mind on headphones?

You live in a small apartement so if you realy want to get good sound so are headphones can be a way.

For example Senheiser HD 650 if you like Jazz it is the best for Double-Bass itis so realistic with its body yeah! You will like the smooth and warm soud that involve you totaly into music.

If you like classic-music AKG K-701 with its wounderfull great wide stage will be the way.

Beyerdynamic DT 880 is Rock & Roll. Realy dynamic, has punch and very natural sound; so it will be the allrounder for budged.

But all of them will will be topped by Audio Technica W5000 so it will be the best choice if your budged is a little bigger :weed:

So you only need a good CD-player like the CDT-17A
And a good phoneamp.

I can advise the Citypulse EF3.01, you can purchase under hxxp://www.diykits.com.hk/index.html

Or if you don't want to buy a new CDP you can take the Citypulse DA7.2X

Thats is only my opinion.
I live in a small room to. (13 square meters)
But if i want to feel the Bass i listen with my Monsoon FPF 600 with an TAC34 it was the best setup i ever had in this room.
The AT88 that i had, i have sold, cause it was no way for me. It sounded very unmusicaly to me.
Ok i am the only one in this forum with this opinion and it could depend on my room and my speakers and the fact that i am an musician.
So my ears are damaged a bit.
I really have heard the AT88 sounding verry sweet in an other room and with other speakers (gelle Tomi S :beer ).
So i think there are many ways.
Im shure you will find yours :OK:
Listen!

Keep alive

Chilli

Hi Chilli,

Thanks for your suggestion. However for my work i spent quite a lot of time on the phone so i like to give my ears some room after work. I don't even have like 65% of people here an mp3 player to stuff in my ears...

Have listened to the A88T too, and just before in the same room a customer was listening to a marantz amplifier. I'm not saying they sound similar, but i do find that the A88T sounds to much like a modern amplifier. If i compare this to for instance to the Ming Da mc368-b90 i prefer the sound of the ming da even dow it can be to sharp/high some times. I do think the A88T is an excellent sounding system, just not what i am looking for in a tube amp. KT88 tubes?
Listened to Jolida to, had a jazz cd with me which the 502 and 802 (?) could not handle, trumpet. The 202 (?) with el34 tubes if i am not mistaken sounds much better to me. Best was the Lua 4045, but then i ask myself why everybody says that you need big transfos, if you like inside they are realy small!

So after doing all this listening i decided to have a look at the SET 300 tube systems. After all i have a powerfull enough system at home in belgium. Martin has good experience with the cayins 9048d monos but are probably very expensive. Then the Yarland 200 pro has very good all round reviews (jazz as pop, quick, good quality...) Also read that the Mingda blocks are good; mc845c or 805a with a mc7r pre-amp for less money than a A88T.

Anyone good advice on speakers for SET 300 systems next to Leisure 5?
Only chinese brands please!

Will soon meet with Juri :beer (china R&H nick) which is having some holiday for the moment. Thanks again for the advice Tom.

Any further advice or remarks on what i just wrote is very welcome of course, why are we here for after all...

Cheers,

Michael

Ps; dont know how to help you on writing enlitsch, i do know however that you should write slowly if you are posting a message to people who cant read very well

Hi Tom,

I'm Belgian, but consider myself more like a world citizen.
I've lived in many places around asia, back in China now, was here for one year from early 2000 on.

Have no idea what Juri alias Mr. China has at home. If he's been buying gear quite a lot i'm sure he must have been upgrading. Let's see what he proposes. If he offers me the opportunity to have a listen i'll be all ears!
That is if he hasnt some of those noisy chinese neighbourghs, gush these are load people haha

Thanks again for your advice Tom, appreciate it. Maybe a :mh: set is a nice addition in the future; kids or a difficult wife :lips: haha

Cheers
Michael
